I was speaking with a friend the other day right after one of my 2-day sales seminars and we got on the subject of MLMs and Direct Marketing companies. It struck me fairly quickly that he did not like any form of direct marketing. The MLM that tried to recruit him years ago tried to trick him into attending a seminar. Avon is clearly a leader in the beauty products industry. This company grew as a direct marketer. Their associates buy, sell, and use their own products - and love it. How is it that there is so much negativity on the web about how hard it is to be an Avon representative? Why don't most independent representatives that sell the Avon line achieve the success they thought they might reach? Let me spell it out for you: Most people are not salespeople. Any one can speak to a friend but sell to a friend that is a different story. Also once you run out of friends and family you have to pitch to people you don't know. Now that is down right scary to most non-salespeople. So instead of advancing in their careers direct marketers like Avon sales representatives either quit in discuss or fade away. This can be fixed! Sales is a process and that processed can be taught and learned. Here's what I tell all of the Avon leaders that I meet - get some web based sales training for your Avon representatives.
